A Restful Stay at Mansuirou

For those planning a visit to Misasa Onsen town, you will be spoilt for choice of onsen ryokan to stay in!

However if you wish to spoil yourself and indulge in a stay that combines the best of Japanese traditional design and modern comforts and amenities, then Mansuirou is a perfect choice!

Located right by the town’s iconic Misasa Bridge, Mansuirou has views of the river flowing through the town and is an easy walking distance to all of the town’s sights and charms.

Inside Mansuirou itself, you will feel like you’ve entered a magical scene from Spirited Away with it’s indoor tea lounge complete with huge wagasa umbrella overlooking a small inside stream.

Guests can also enjoy relaxing in the lobby lounge area, or if they wish to belt out a song later in the evening - Mansuirou has its own karaoke lounge and night bar

Spacious Luxurious Ryokan Rooms

44 rooms are available at Mansuirou in a variety of size, and design. Guests can choose from spacious, traditional 10 tatami size rooms with wide engawa spaces, large windows and traditional futon bedding; decorated with timeless pieces of artwork and history. There are also some Japanese style rooms with twin beds

Deluxe style Japanese traditional rooms, have two rooms within it - which is perfect for larger groups and families.

5 types of suite rooms are available - all with open air or semi open air private hot spring baths. The Japanese-Western style suite has a beautiful turquoise shigaraki open air onsen bath to enjoy whilst the Miyabi suite holds a semi open air stone onsen for its guests. Even more breathtaking are the Misasa Suites with multiple rooms, panoramic views of the town and their own large private open air pottery onsen bath.

The Misasa Luxury Suite

Gotenshu (503)

Another one for the memory books amidst all my onsen ryokan adventures of amazing ryokan rooms with private onsen is definitely the beautiful Gotenshu room. One of their “Misasa Luxury Suites”, Gotenshu is located on the top floor of Mansuirou and is a corner room which offers wide panoramic views of the Misasa river area.

Relax in Your Own Private Onsen

Shigaraki pottery onsen baths always makes me feel like I’m soaking in a giant teacup or traditional chawan.

Gotenshu’s is perfect in size and depth for one to fully immerse themselves in the healing waters and bypass the time feeling the fresh air whilst enjoying the written word - pretty much my favourite way to experience my private onsen.

With the ability to sleep up to 7 people, one can enjoy the western style spacious bedroom, with sitting area and the panoramic views of the town. Adjacent to the bedroom is the room’s divine private open air onsen; a large shigaraki bath with free flowing onsen water, sliding shutters allow you to create an open air situation or create even more privacy as you soak away.

If you have a larger group of people, the second bedroom is a large, serene traditional Japanese tatami room where futons can be spread out, otherwise if its just a couple or yourself, enjoy it as your own resting room to sip tea, read a book, and just relax. The room also features 2 indoor bathrooms as well, which makes it even more convenient if you are travelling with friends and family.

A Sumptuous Japanese Kaiseki Dinner & Breakfast

Once more, another delicious traditional Japanese kaiseki dinner to add to the list - its definitely one where you should ensure you come to dinner feeling hungry! From everything to the freshest sashimi, to mouthwatering wagyu, to delicate little side dishes; though at first I thought it was the perfect amount, where I was full but not stuffed - then the whole steamed fish appeared *sweatdrops

Breakfast was also a mouthwatering meal filled with the traditional favourites like grilled fish and a steamed nabe, yet a perfect amount to start the day hiking Mt Mitoku with the right energy.

MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS

FOOD

Flavoursome and tasty, the dinner and breakfast did not disappoint.  In general terms, the food amount was not over the top - I’ve been to others that it was just way way too much which makes me feel guilty about food wastage; this was practically a perfect amount and would have been utterly perfect if I had been able to eat a bit later (but had to be elsewhere) as I was still a tad full from lunch.

ONSEN

Drawn from three in house hot spring sources, Mansuirou, guests can fully immerse themselves in the radium steam rising from the indoor bath, whilst if you’re a bit shy and you book a room without a private onsen; there is a private reservable onsen available for staying guests to enjoy which can comfortably fit several people.

As I had a private onsen bath in the room, I spent most of my time there enjoying the onsen water’s healing benefit, and it has to be one of my favourite private open air baths purely for the size alone! Its always so nice if you’re travelling with your partner or friends and you can enjoy the onsen together.

Remember Misasa Onsen area has one of the highest levels of radon in their hot springs in the world and many come to visit to imbue its healing properties.

ROOM AMBIANCE

A perfect combination of Japanese and Western design elements, comforts and touches. Spacious, with gorgeous natural light, plenty of resting area and the luxurious private onsen was wonderful. Was also such a rarity to see two indoor bathrooms! Which really emphasised to me that their suites are perfect for families and larger  groups so everyone can have their privacy but still enjoy quality time together.

VENUE AMBIANCE

With the rooms being so luxurious and comforting, I spent whatever spare time I had enjoying them, though I loved how Mansuirou had a relaxing lobby lounge for guests and the beautiful indoor tea house area with the umbrella and small stream is not something I’ve seen before and just looked magical and very Ghibli-esque

SURROUNDING AREA

Misasa Onsen has got to be one of my favourite onsen towns, with its story and legends and breathtaking Mt Mitoku. I hope to return one day so I can fully visit it in the bloom of cherry blossoms! You can read all about what to in Misasa Onsen here and here.
